FLYING AT SOUTHBOURNE AND BARTON
BOURNEMOUTH ATC RULES
Before flying at Southbourne or Barton - you MUST ensure
that Bournemouth ATC has been notified that flying will be taking place
on that day - and let them know from which site you will be flying.
Bournemouth ATC Phone Number : 01202
364 150
Just because there are other pilots in the air - do
not assume that they have already notified ATC. If you cannot verify directly
with another pilot before you fly that ATC have been notified - call them
yourself ! ATC would rather have 20 calls in the day than none!
There is no need
to notify ATC again when flying finishes for the day.. ATC will
maintain notification to aircraft for the remainder of the day assuming
that flying continues until dusk.
All flying
must be done within the following parameters
-
When the
visibility exceeds 5,000m, to remain clear of cloud and
in sight of the surface.
-
limited to a
maximum height of 700 feet AMSL and less than 100 meters from the
shore line
Please remember that
this phone call is
-
for your own protection.
Powered aircraft are legally meant to stay at least 500ft from the
cliffs (which is pretty close anyway) but helicopters have been seen
flying down the coast a lot closer than that, and
-
a stipulation by
Bournemouth ATC if we wish to retain their permission to fly these
sites in their Class D Air Space.
Note : You don't have to phone up if you are flying Barton and do not
intend to fly west as far as Chewton Bunny (that's where the airspace
starts), but for your own protection it would be sensible to give ATC
a quick call.
