BHPA Safety Notice AF01042007 Incorrrectly fitted Brake Handles

Issued by the BHPA Flying and Safety Committtee

Recent accident investigations have brought to light a potentially serious problem regarding paraglider brake handles.

Brake handles are produced in handed pairs and are normally marked with a small L and R on the appropriate handle. On several wings involved in recent accidents it has been noted that these have been incorrectly fitted - either transposed, or two of the same type.

Paraglider pilots are strongly advised not to fly until they have checked their brake handles are correctly fitted. If you note this fault, or if the markings are not visible you should contact an approved BHPA service centre for re-fitting (e.g. Aerofix: 017687 78901, The Loft: 01273 858620)
